Since both parents are parents, visitation has now been replaced with the term parenting time. Non-residential parenting time favors a very liberal parenting time schedule for the non-residential custodial parent. The minimum visitation time is every other weekend, every other holiday, access on Father’s Day and Mother’s Day, depending whether this is the Mother or Father, 2 or 3 weeks in the Summer, rotating school holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Winter break and Spring break. In addition, a non-residential custodial parent should be entitled to one or two dinners with the children in the week that they stay over at the other parent’s home.
Residential Parent’s Obligation
The residential custodial parent should be providing the non-residential custodial parent with information regarding school activities, report cards, medical issues concerning the children and the children’s progress in school. Video conferences and meetings for the non-residential custodial parent are also recommended.
God has given every child two parents. Children thrive when they have a loving relationship with both of their parents. The residential custodial parent has an obligation to promote the children’s relationship with the other parent. Residential custodial parents who do not do this harm their children. True acts of love for ones children involves putting the children’s interests above the parent’s interest and personal issues with the other parent.
